What age do you have to be to partake in this trip?
Any age as long as you a sense of adventure and a desire to have some fun. The average age has been between 18 and 40 but we have had all ages on our trips and everyone has enjoyed the experiences. On one trip we had a family from Sweden with baby and small child, all seasoned travelers. The kids were fussed over by the other travelers and the parents really looked after them. We have also had retirees on board and believe it or not they even gave the Adventure Caving a go, and some were fitter than the younger members on the bus, which can be a little embarrassing. There are so many different parts of the trip that don't require a lot of activity and can be done by all… as long as you do what you and don't overdo it
What level of fitness do you need to have?
As mentioned above as long as you know your own limitations and don't overdo it. There are some medium to hard walks and you will require a certain level of fitness but really if you can't do it all then turn back.
Do I have to do the Caving or the Boogie Boarding activity and are there other options?
The Caving is an exciting activity but if you don't feel comfortable doing this then there is the option of a guided tour through the Victorian Fossil Cave which is all gentle walking. The boogie boards are there for anyone wanting to use them for some surf but we are aware that not everyone wants to do this. We allow time at Kennet river for this activity as this allows the others not swimming to go for a walk to see the Koalas that can be found in the car park area or feed the native parrots. It is also good fun watching the surfers trying to catch a wave.
What do I need to bring and how much luggage can I bring?
You need to ensure that you have sensible clothing with a warm jumper and jacket especially for night time as the temperature can vary along the coast. Covered walking shoes as sandals are not really suitable for any of the activities. Toiletries, towel swimming gear, towel, sunscreen, hat, water bottle and day packs for the walks, insect repellant, cameras and a torch. As far as luggage goes whatever you can carry in both hands will be okay ,Two bags, suitcase or backpack day packs will be okay but any excessive luggage will need to be checked out with us before day of departure. We have taken bikes that can be taken apart as well as a surfboard but like the excess luggage you will need to notify us to see if it is okay. It would help if you brought your own straps and if you can pull the bike apart so that it can fit in the trailers. Surfboards and guitars generally get in above the bags and musical instruments are not usually a problem unless you are carrying a huge Tuba or Cello!!!!
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
No, as both hostels supply the quilts/doova's, pillow and clean linen. Of course if you have your favorite traveling pillow than this is okay but generally hostels prefer you to use their supplied bedding and don't like you using your sleeping bag on their beds.
What food do you serve and what if I have a special diet requirement ?
Goin South provides breakfast and dinner only and you have to look after your own lunch. Breakfast is usually just Orange juice, Milk ,cereals, muesli, and toast with all of your favorite toppings. Dinner is a mixture of fresh salads, pasta bakes, roast potato, garlic breads, bread, sauces and BBQ meats/chicken. Always ice cream with a delicious topping for desert. We will cater for the traveler that has dietry needs such as being vegetarian or glucose intolerant. Please inform us of this when you are booking the tour so that other food can be bought especially for you.
